Working at SiriusXM has been surreal so far. Every day I get to work on something that, as far as I know, no other companies would trust mere interns with. I feel like I’ve hit the ground running these first couple of weeks; I’ve already started working on producing a listener-guest DJ show for JamOn called “Roll Your Own Show,” which is awesome, but I have to say one of my favorite things I get to do is work on the “Tales from the Golden Road” call-in show for the Grateful Dead channel. Even though it means I have to go into the office on Sunday afternoons, I really enjoy fielding calls from the Deadheads that call in from all over the country to talk to the hosts of the show, who are insanely interesting people. Just sitting in the SiriusXM studio is an experience in itself–a step up from my school’s little studio, that’s for sure!
Although some of my tasks can fall on the drier side of things– making up third party playlists in Excel for the Grateful Dead and Pearl Jam comes to mind– it is still INFINITELY better than making copies and getting coffee! I feel really privileged that I get to work for great people and a great company and can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester has to offer.
