I’m working with the NASCAR Channel this semester and so far, I’ve become more familiarized with Dalet (the broadcasting software) and started learning the soundboard in the studio. I was really excited the first day of my internship its my first real chance to be completely on my own being from Kansas away from family, apart from learning how to get around in DC and the route to SiriusXM was a bit daunting at first.
While having some radio experience with small market stations and college radio have helped with the transition to SiriuXMs so I wasn’t completely in shock when I stepped into the NASCAR Channel. The Producers have been very helpful one of the first things they said to me was, ” you’re going to screw up, it’s okay.” I’ve had the best learning experience so far there is a great deal of information the first couple of days that you get including running the board and learning Dalet editing system.
It’s great starting right at the beginning of the season its has been very exciting to be involved with the shows. One of the first big tasks was media day there were so many interviews I had just learned Dalet and put my skills to the test. It was very rewarding to hear the sound bits you edited to hear on the air.
