The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. It’s a particularly special time to be working on news about and catered to the LGBTQ community because of the two court cases about marriage equality. I helped prepare and participated in a live news special previewing both of the cases. It was my first experience with live radio (after a few months of doing recorded news pieces), and it was more exciting than I could have imagined. I loved talking with my mentor Xorje and the other people in studio, as well as with the callers. I also helped facilitate a fun interaction with gay couples who were listening by asking them to send their wedding photos via Twitter. So many people were eager to give their input and show off their love. It was a great and unique experience that I’ll always remember.
On the days the cases were argued, I was able to follow them live while helping guide others through the cases as well. On top of all of it, we also managed to do all of our usual work as well! It’s been a busy and challenging few months now. The experience is more than half over now, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what else the future holds.
